Get Natural Soft Lighting

Using natural light in mobile macro photography may be challenging to find, but is the key to getting a great picture. When shooting a macro shot your image will be closer and will need more light to see all the intricate details. You can increase the light by increasing the exposure on the slider on the side or the bottom. Look for the image of a sun or a light bulb and slide your finger up or to the side. When taking a close up picture shadows can quickly mess up your photo. If the image has many harsh shadows you can stand between the sun to reduce the glare on the subject. Taking pictures at sunrise or sunset is the best time to get good lighting.

Try Gear

It is very hard to take great shots without gear. The slightest motion can make your close up image out of focus and blurry. If you can’t hold perfectly still while you take the shot you will need to invest in a tripod and a shutter release button. A tripod will help you stabilize the image.  The Joby Tripod is one of the best tripods in the industry and can be put in many positions and surfaces for better close up images. The Joby Impulse Shutter Remote is a perfect tool so that you can shoot your image from a distance. You will notice that your images turn out better because you don’t have the movement from tapping on the screen. A lens will make it so you can get even closer. The Olloclip macro lens allows you to get even closer at 10x or 15x and see every detail.

Nail the Focus

Getting a macro image to look amazing requires that you nail the focus. In mobile macro photography you have a limited depth of field or area that the photo will stay in focus. Your goal is for the subject to stay in focus, the larger the magnification the smaller area of exact focus in your pictures. Having just a few details like tentacle of a bug in exact focus next to the flower may make a great photo . The leaves may be slightly blurry leading the eye into the specific detail of the bug. If you miss the focus you can use live mode or burst mode to choose an image that may have been in focus.

Use Manual Mode

A mobile phone on auto mode automatically focuses for you. This can lead to blurry pictures and areas that are in focus that you would like to change. A manual mode app or pro option (Samsung) allows you to manually focus and lock. The manual focus option may be a little AF (auto focus) or MF (manual focus) icon for adjusting the image focus. Hold down of the square or circle in the center to lock the focus. By using this you will be able to fabulously focus on your macro photo.
