Nowadays our phone is like an appendage that goes everywhere with us, and it is hard to remember to clean your phone. We browse social media at home, and then take it to the store and use it to pay for our groceries. We place it on surfaces that may not be clean and then answer a call. Germs can easily be transferred to your skin through the use of your phone.

Recently, we may have disinfected our houses and started counting to 20 when we wash our hands, but we may have forgotten to clean our phones. By cleaning our phones we can help keep us and our loved ones from transmitting the virus. In the past, we have not known what was the best way to clean your phone.  It is suggested that we clean our phones once a day or a few times a week.

Tips to Clean Your Phone

When cleaning your phone, it is important to use a microfiber cloth or soft cloth which is lint-free. These are more gentle than other materials and will not damage your phone. Although it may seem best to use a paper towel, towel or similar items, they can make scratches as you clean. Apple recently said that one way you can clean your phone to gently use a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe. Avoid spraying bleach or other spray cleaners directly on your cell phone. Take note when cleaning to avoid getting moisture into any openings. Samsung suggests using a 70% alcohol based solution and spraying it on a microfiber cloth and gently cleaning your smartphone. It is best to clean your phone when it is placed on a surface so that you don’t drop it during cleaning.

Protecting Your Screen from Scratches

Place your camera facing downwards protects it from damage to the screen. I suggest placing the camera downwards to protect the camera lens. With phone insurance, you can replace the screen for fairly inexpensive. If the lens of the camera gets cracked it is expensive and hard to replace. The lens is the most valuable part of your camera and needs protection. You can purchase a lens screen protector for your mobile camera lens. This is an inexpensive way to protect your lens and ensure your camera lasts the life of your phone.

Eliminating Dust and Smudges on a Camera Lens

Dust is an enemy to a lens; each little invisible particle trapped on a lens can scratch the lens. If it is dusty try to protect your phone lens. Sometimes if you spill something on your lens or have dirt caked on, using a cloth or tissue may cause more damage and scratch the screen. To clean the lens first swab the lens using a q-tip then use water or a 70% alcohol-based solution. This will gently clean your lens. If there are smudges or fingerprints on the lens you can gently wipe with a microfiber cloth.
